DUVAL COUNTY JURY FINDS NELOMS GUILTY OF ATTEMPTED MANSLAUGHTER
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces a Duval County jury found Christopher Neloms guilty of Attempted Manslaughter. Neloms faces up to five years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Kevin Blazs will sentence Neloms during a May 12, 2023 hearing.
On March 22, 2020, Neloms was arguing with his girlfriend and parked his car in the road to prevent her from leaving. The victim was returning home from grocery shopping and could not pass because Neloms’ car was blocking the road. After waiting for a few minutes, the victim then honked her horn. Neloms became angry and began to curse and threaten the victim. The victim responded by driving through a neighbor’s yard to avoid Neloms and head home, but he followed her in his car. When the victim arrived home and began unloading groceries from her backseat, she heard Neloms yelling from down the road. He pointed a firearm at her, threatened to kill her, and fired four shots. Months later, Neloms was involved in another road rage altercation where he pulled the same firearm out on a man and his pregnant wife in the parking lot of a business. Neloms was arrested on scene and his firearm and shell casings matched those from the March incident.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Brittany Johnson and Megan Sowell.
