State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces today that Maurice Antonio Mobley, 34, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Mobley now faces a maximum of 15 years in Florida State Prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Bruce R. Anderson, Jr. on Aug. 21.

Mobley left a firearm at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, where several young children also lived. The ex-girlfriend’s 8-year-old son located the firearm and accidentally shot and killed his 5-year-old sister, Serenity Allen, and injured a 4-year-old child.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was successfully prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Korey Milo and Chris Huband, members of the office’s Special Prosecution Unit.
