State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Brian Kevin Littles, Jr., 23, of Jacksonville, was sentenced by the Honorable Steven Whittington to 35 years in Florida State Prison for crimes he committed in October 2017. Littles pleaded guilty to charges of Second-Degree Felony Murder, Armed Burglary with Assault or Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile Delinquent with a Prior Felony on Sept. 10, 2018. Littles was sentenced following a hearing on Oct. 12, 2018.

On Oct. 19, 2017, Littles entered the home of his former girlfriend, Rashaela Mickens, after discovering that she had a new boyfriend. Littles’ entry was precipitated by a lengthy exchange of text messages with Mickens, which became increasingly threatening from Littles. Upon entry, Littles exchanged gunfire with Mickens’ new boyfriend, who fired in self-defense after observing Littles enter through the window of the home. During the violent exchange, Mickens’ 3-year-old son, Connor, was shot in the head. He died days later. Rashaela Mickens was also shot in the leg during the incident. Mickens’ other son, a 5-year-old, was also present. Littles fled the residence and later turned himself in to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Christopher Huband.
