Williams Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping ‘Baby Kamiyah’ in 1998

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Gloria Williams, 52, of Walterboro, S.C., pleaded guilty to Kidnapping, and Interference with Custody. Pursuant to the plea agreement, Williams now faces a maximum of 22 years in Florida State Prison. She faces 22 years on the kidnapping count and five years on the interference count, with the sentences running concurrently.

A sentencing hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 3-4, 2018.

On July 10, 1998, Williams entered University Medical Center, now known as UF Health Jacksonville, and kidnapped a newborn child, Kamiyah Mobley. Williams took Mobley to her home in Walterboro, S.C., and raised her as Alexis Manigo. In January 2017, Manigo was reunited with her birth parents after the longtime investigation and tips to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the discovery of Williams’ crime and Manigo actually being Mobley.

“For nearly 20 years, the community wanted answers about what happened to Kamiyah Mobley. We now have those answers,” said Assistant State Attorney Alan Mizrahi. “Kamiyah’s parents never lost hope that they would one day be reunited, and law enforcement never wavered in its commitment to finding the truth.”

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, supported by the resources of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Alan Mizrahi.
