State Attorney Melissa Nelson today announces that the Honorable Angela M. Cox sentenced Dheyaa Khaleel Mohammed Mohammed, of Jacksonville to 25 years in Florida State Prison for Attempted First-Degree Murder (Actual Possession and Discharge of a Firearm).

Mohammed entered a plea and was sentenced on May 29, 2019. On Aug. 14, 2018, Farah Abouli Al_Gburi left her apartment with her young son to walk him to school.

While they were walking, Mohammed, the victim’s estranged husband, confronted the two and shot Al Gburi twice in the chest. Mohammed then absconded with the firearm, ran to his car, and fled the scene. The child ran to a stranger’s home and told them what happened. Law enforcement was called and, due to the child’s quick actions, first responders were able to quickly arrive and save Al Gburi’s life.

When investigators were on scene searching for evidence, Mohammed returned, exited his vehicle, and began shouting that he had killed his wife. He was taken into custody and, post-Miranda, admitted to the crime. The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Mac Heavener III and Jessica Hensley.
