Man Who Attacked Officer During Riot Sentenced to Prison

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Martin Bryan Silvera-Albor, of Jacksonville, pleaded guilty to Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer and Criminal Mischief and has been sentenced by the Honorable Meredith Charbula to 21 months in Florida State Prison followed by one year of Community Control.

Silvera-Albor committed the offenses on May 30, 2020, in Downtown Jacksonville, after a protest turned into civil unrest. Members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene where Silvera-Albor repeatedly jumped on a police car and punched an officer several times causing a neck injury to the officer. The crime was captured on numerous video devices and footage was released to the public seeking the Silvera-Albor’s identification. On June 11, 2020, a warrant was obtained for Silvera-Albor on separate charges and he was positively identified by others using photos from the May 30 incident.

“We remain committed to protecting peaceful protests while holding those accountable who resort to violence,” said State Attorney Melissa Nelson.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Joe Licandro.
