McKinnon Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder in 2019 Killing

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Henry McKinnon III was found guilty by a jury of First-Degree Murder of Travis James. After the verdict, the Honorable Tatiana Salvador sentenced McKinnon to life in Florida State Prison.

On Oct. 13, 2019, patrol officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Kings Road gas station about a person being shot. The victim, James, was transported to the hospital but died from his injuries. Surveillance video from the gas station showed McKinnon with a handgun run at James and begin shooting. The video then shows McKinnon standing over James on the ground and shooting him multiple times at close range before running away. The next day, a witness contacted law enforcement with information about McKinnon and his intent to shoot someone. On Oct. 16, 2019, another witness provided law enforcement a detailed account about the homicide and identified McKinnon as the shooter. Following the investigation, McKinnon was arrested.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Christina Stifler and Alan Mizrahi.
