State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Derek Hudson guilty of two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Hudson is facing up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Hudson during the week of June 5.

On April 2, 2022, two victims drove themselves to UF Health. One victim had a gunshot wound to her right hand. During the following investigation, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office discovered that as the victims were pulling into one of their apartment complexes, one victim was on the phone arguing with Hudson. As they were about to get out of the car, Hudson pulled up in front of them and got out of his vehicle with a firearm in hand. The victims closed and locked their car doors. Hudson shot at the victims three times.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Kate Bedell and Jackie Blair.
