Teen Pleads Guilty to Murder, Sentenced to 30 Years

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces Alex Reddice Jr. pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder and Armed Robbery. Per the negotiated plea, Reddice faced a range of 10 to 40 years in prison. On Sept. 11, 2026, the Honorable L.E. Hutton sentenced Reddice to 30 years in prison followed by five years of probation. 

On Jan. 23, 2025, several people were inside the victim’s apartment before school, including then 16-year-old Reddice. That morning, the teens were playing video games and smoking marijuana inside the victim’s apartment. When it was time to leave to go to school, Reddice grabbed the victim’s gun and said “run that” and started shooting. The term is used when someone is being robbed. The other teens at the apartment — who were not involved in Reddice’s plan — ran. The victim’s 8-year-old daughter was in the apartment kitchen when Reddice began shooting and called 911. Reddice grabbed a bag of marijuana from the victim’s home and ran from the scene. Reddice threw the gun and marijuana into a bush, where he later brought detectives back and they recovered the weapon and drugs.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Jalisa Curtis King.
