State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury has found Jahmal Freeman guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. With the verdict, Freeman faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jeb Branham will sentence Freeman at a later date.

On Dec. 18, 2017, the victim was walking near his home on Normandy Boulevard when a convertible rapidly approached him. Freeman and a co-defendant were sitting on the back of the convertible top pointing firearms at the victim. As the victim ran to his home to hide, the victim was shot several times in both legs. Four homes — some occupied — were also struck by the gunfire.

The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Marcus Isom Jr. and Chyna-Michele Makarowski.
