State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that the Honorable James Kallaher sentenced Jonathan Davis to 20 years in Florida State Prison for Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death. Davis previously pleaded guilty to the court Sept. 26, 2023, for the hit-and-run crash that killed 23-year-old Cassidy Mongeon.

Around 12:25 a.m. April 10, 2021, Davis was driving westbound on County Road 218 when he crossed the center line and veered into the eastbound lane.  Davis struck the front left of Mongeon’s car and drove off. Davis did not call 911. Instead, he fled into a wooded area and hid from Florida Highway Patrol, which responded to the scene. Mongeon suffered a traumatic brain injury and was pronounced deceased at Orange Park Medical Center around 1:30 p.m. At 2:35 p.m., Davis called the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to turn himself in. Officers went to Davis’ home where he admitted to the hit and run crash.

The case was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Hector Murcia Bustos.
