State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Edward Hicks guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Hicks faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Hicks at a later date.

On March 7, 2022, the victim was meeting up with Hicks — her long-term on-and-off again boyfriend — to get money to buy shoes for her son. The two met in a lot on Bridier Street, and the victim got into the passenger side of Hicks’ vehicle. An altercation arose and the victim was able to escape in her friend’s vehicle. As she was driving off, Hicks pulled out a sawed off 20-gauge shotgun and fired two shots in the air. The victim found patrol officers nearby on Hubbard Street and flagged them down for help. Other officers found Hicks underneath a camper in a vacant lot holding the shotgun in his hands.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Luke Dill and Korey Milo.
