State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Shaun Pyles guilty of Carjacking with a Firearm. With the verdict, Pyles faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Pyles at a later date.

On Dec. 3, 2022, the victim called police to report a carjacking on Airport Center Drive. The victim pulled into a gas station and parked near the car cleaning center. While she was cleaning out the back of her car, Pyles walked past her. He then turned around and walked up to the victim, held a gun to her hip, and demanded her keys. He ordered the victim into her car, but she refused. She told him the keys were in the car. Pyles got into the driver’s seat of the car, and when the victim attempted to stop him from driving away, he pointed his gun at her head. Pyles then drove off in her car. He also stole the victim’s credit card, which was inside the car, and the victim later had multiple transactions from businesses in Georgia including CN&T Home Repair. Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office discovered CN&T Home Repair was Pyles’ home renovation business. Surveillance videos from the gas station and multiple stores show Pyles stealing the victim’s car and making illegal purchases. Pyles was arrested on Jan. 2, 2023, in Pooler, Georgia.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jalisa Curtis and Shaina Ruth.
