State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Craig Tarrant guilty of Grand Theft and Resisting an Officer Without Violence. Immediately following the verdict, the Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Tarrant to four years in Florida State Prison.

On Jan. 16, 2024, an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to North Main Street for a stolen RV. As the officer was driving to the scene, JSO headquarters relayed information that a witness was pursuing the suspect on Briarcliff Road. Another officer was dispatched and pursued the stolen RV. While driving the stolen RV, Tarrant hit a vehicle and ran over a stop sign trying to get away from the police. Tarrant finally stopped at his home on Westmar Road and ran inside. An officer detained Tarrant inside his home. Video surveillance from where the RV was stolen showed Tarrant drive off the lot with the RV hitched to the back of his car.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Aaron Appiah Jr. and Ashleigh Bateh.
