State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Cory Johnson guilty of Possession of Controlled Substance. With the verdict, Johnson faces up to five years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Lindsay Tygart will sentence Johnson at a later date.

On Oct. 14, 2023, K9 officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a stolen car on MLK Expressway. Officers detained Johnson and the witness who was in the car. During a probable cause search, officers found a small bag with white rock-like substances inside Johnson’s back pocket. The substance tested positive for substituted cathinones, a Schedule I controlled substance.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Ashleigh Bateh and Michael Eckhart.
