State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Roland Ball II guilty of First-Degree Murder; four counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder; one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder; two counts of Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles; and one count of Harassing a Witness, Victim, or Informant. With the verdict, Ball faces a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Meredith Charbula will formally sentence Ball at a later date.

On March 18, 2020, gunmen shot into a vehicle on Portsmouth Avenue with four people inside.  Ball was identified as one of the gunmen in that attempted murder.

Around 7 p.m. March 19, 2020, 17-year-old Inandi Wyche was driving with a man in her car. As they pulled to a stop sign on Portsmouth Avenue, they heard multiple gunshots, and the man was able to run. Ball was identified as one of the gunmen.  The male victim survived the shooting, but Wyche did not. Wyche was not in a gang and was an innocent victim.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joe Licandro, Alan Mizrahi, and Giovanna Rivera.
