State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that the Honorable James Kallaher sentenced Kentrell Cox to 50 years in Florida State Prison, followed by lifetime sex offender probation, for sex crimes against a minor. Cox during a May 21, 2025, hearing pleaded guilty to two counts of Sexual Battery (Custodial Authority), two counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation (Victim Older than 12, Younger than 16), and one count of Showing Obscene Materials to Minors. He was also designated a Sexual Predator.
Throughout 2021-22, Cox committed sexual acts with a child who was between the ages of 14-15. Those acts progressed from touching to full sexual activity during the timeframe and, based on Cox’s own admission, were taking place “every other day.” Others became aware of the crimes when the young victim became pregnant.
The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Randi Daugustinis and Ashley Terry.
