State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces a Clay County jury found Stephen Daniell guilty of Felony Battery for a 2025 attack on his ex-girlfriend. With the verdict, and the finding that Daniell is a Habitual Felony Offender, he faces up to 10 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Steven Whittington will sentence Daniell at a later date.
On May 17, 2025, Daniell and the victim got into a verbal argument and broke up. Daniell told her to leave, so the victim grabbed what she could of her things and left. She returned the next day to get the remainder of her belongings. The victim contacted Daniell’s father, who lives next door, to help. The two went over to Daniell’s house and Daniell refused to give her back her things. Daniell then began to toss the victim’s belongings out of the house. Daniell became aggressive and the victim said she was going to call the police. Daniell began punching the victim, pushed her to the ground, and continued to beat her rendering the victim unconscious. Daniell then grabbed the victim off the ground and took her inside his house; she was unable to walk at the time and had difficulty speaking. Eventually, Daniell’s father was able to call his other son, who in turn called 911 for them. First responders took the victim to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a broken orbital socket and fractured cheek bone.
The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Kristen Huether and Jamie Cona.
