Jury Finds Brown Guilty of Attempted Murder of His Girlfriend

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Jocquez Brown guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder (Domestic). With the verdict, Brown faces a minimum mandatory of 25 years to life in the Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Brown at a later date.

On Nov. 14, 2022, officers responded to a shooting at a Downtown Jacksonville home close to midnight in reference to a shooting. Brown and the victim, his on-and-off girlfriend of seven years, were in an argument. Brown has a history of domestic violence with the victim. The victim attempted to leave the home to sit outside in her car and remove herself from the situation, but Brown shot her in the back as she left the home. Brown kept a silver and brown pistol in the closet of their bedroom, which he used to shoot the victim. All three of the victim’s children were home at the time. The oldest child—who was 13 years old at the time—witnessed the shooting, called 911, and identified Brown as the shooter. The victim was shot in her back which resulted in permanent paralysis. Brown was located and arrested in Waycross, Georgia two weeks after the shooting and was extradited back to Jacksonville.

This case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Terence Martin and Katherina Brown.
