State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Granardo Felix II guilty of Manslaughter with a Firearm and Tampering with Evidence. With the verdict, Felix faces thirty years in Florida State Prison on the Manslaughter conviction. The Honorable Lindsay Tygart will sentence Felix at a later date.

On August 29, 2021, Felix dropped off his child at the mother’s house. The victim was previously married to his child’s mother, and Felix had ongoing animosity over the years with her boyfriend, the victim. As Felix drove away from her house, the victim was walking through the neighborhood. Felix saw him, and after an encounter on the street, fired multiple shots at the victim from his car. The victim was struck twice by bullets. Felix left the scene, and when officers arrived, the victim was still alive. On body worn camera, the victim told officers Felix shot him. The victim was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Officers detained Felix at his workplace, and a detective found four empty shell casings in the garbage near the employee entrance.  Felix claimed self-defense and that the victim had attacked him in his car. Felix, in an effort to bolster his story, damaged his own vehicle and claimed to others that the victim had done it. Video surveillance from his workplace proved otherwise.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by the Director of the Special Victims Unit Khary Gaynor and Assistant State Attorney Katherina Brown.
