JAMES FOUND GUILTY OF ILLEGALLY POSSESSING FIREARM
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Brandon James was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, James faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison with a minimum-mandatory of three years. The Honorable Tatiana Salvador will sentence James during a hearing the week of Feb. 6, 2023.
On March 12, 2021, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrived at a Northwest Jacksonville home in reference to a firearm being discharged. They met the victim who told officers her boyfriend fired a weapon after the two of them argued. During the argument, James took out the handgun and pointed it at the victim before firing it into a window frame. James then fled through the window after he was blocked from exiting the house. Two witnesses in the home saw the argument and James holding the gun. James was later found at a Downtown hotel and arrested.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jalisa Curtis and Kendall Briley.
