State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Dreshawn Tony Perry, 23, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of Attempted Manslaughter with a Firearm and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. After the jury returned this verdict, Perry pleaded to additional charge of Possession of a Firearm by an Adjudicated Delinquent. Perry now faces a maximum of 60 years in Florida State Prison on these charges. A sentencing hearing is scheduled before the Honorable Angela M. Cox the week of August 7, 2017.
According to court documents, testimony, and evidence presented at trial, Brandon Mundy, a victim, was part of a physical fight involving many men in the parking lot of an apartment complex on May 31, 2014. David Peterson, another victim, came out of an apartment. When Peterson came outside, Perry shot Peterson in the chest before shooting Mundy in the shoulder. Peterson and Mundy retreated into an apartment that Perry then shot. Eyewitnesses from the apartment complex were able to identify Perry as the shooter. Perry fled the scene in a vehicle and took the firearm used in the shooting. The gun was never recovered, but a skull cap witnesses said Perry wore during the shooting was recovered and a DNA match was identified.
The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Lara Zaroulis Mattina.
