State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Timothy Hinson was found guilty by a jury of Armed Burglary with Assault or Battery. Hinson also pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. As a Prison Releasee Reoffender, Hinson now faces a mandatory sentence of life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Adrian Soud will schedule a sentencing hearing for Hinson the week of Nov. 29, 2021.

On July 6, 2018, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Northside residence regarding an in-progress armed home robbery. When police arrived, they spoke to a witness who was on the phone with police dispatchers. The witness then called the victim inside the home and the victim told him he was detaining Hinson inside the residence until police arrived. Police then entered the home through a shattered sliding glass door where they saw the victim on top of Hinson. The home was in disarray and showed signs of a struggle. The victim told officers he was watching TV on the couch shortly after noon when Hinson, wearing a black mask over half his face, smashed the sliding glass door with the rifle, struck the victim in the face, and demanded money. The witness who called police noticed the victim’s gate open and walked toward the house when he saw the shattered glass and Hinson standing at the entrance of the residence wearing a black mask and holding a firearm. The witness ran and, during the distraction, the victim tackled Hinson and wrestled the gun away, gouged Hinson’s eyes, and kept him detained until police arrived.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Chyna Makarowski and Adam J. Duso.
