Jones Found Guilty of Possessing Firearm as a Felon

State Attorney Melissa Nelson today announces that D’Troy Jones, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Jones now faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Kevin Blazs sentence Jones during a June 8, 2021, sentencing hearing.
On July 7, 2020, an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the Westside of Jacksonville. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle. Prior to the car stopping, Jones and the driver bailed from the car and fled on foot as the car continued and ultimately hit a parked car. The officer conducting the traffic stop pursued Jones on foot and detained him. Upon further review of the car, the officer located a modified semi-automatic rifle in the passenger seat. Jones was previously convicted of several felonies, making it illegal for him to possess any firearm.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Max Wesemann and Catie Messinger.
