State Attorney Melissa Nelson today announces that D’Troy Jones, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Jones now faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Kevin Blazs sentence Jones during a June 8, 2021, sentencing hearing.

On July 7, 2020, an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the Westside of Jacksonville. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle. Prior to the car stopping, Jones and the driver bailed from the car and fled on foot as the car continued and ultimately hit a parked car. The officer conducting the traffic stop pursued Jones on foot and detained him. Upon further review of the car, the officer located a modified semi-automatic rifle in the passenger seat. Jones was previously convicted of several felonies, making it illegal for him to possess any firearm.
