State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Ja’hairy Carroll guilty of two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. With the verdict, Carroll is facing up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Carroll at a future hearing.

On Feb. 6, 2022, officers with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to shots fired on Art Museum Drive in the Empire Point neighborhood. There was a crowd of people in the area. JSO dispatch advised officers that two victims with gunshot wounds were driven to the hospital by friends or family members. Police gathered shell casings from the parking lot of the plaza where the shooting took place. Witnesses and the victims confirmed that they were attending a family birthday party. Carroll’s girlfriend was in a verbal dispute with one of the victims when the victim called her an expletive. When Carroll was informed about the remark, he began shooting at the victim and his brother.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Donna Thurson and Katherina Brown.
