State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Reginald Perry pleaded guilty to the court of two counts of First-Degree Murder. The Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Perry to life in Florida State Prison during an April 6, 2023, sentencing hearing.

On Sept. 21, 2021, members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to Riverview Park in reference to someone being shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim — who was eight months pregnant at the time — dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The unborn child also died from the injury. The victim’s family suggested Perry was the possible father of the child and a subsequent investigation — including electronic records and surveillance — confirmed that Perry was at the scene and was the shooter.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Sheila Loizos.
