State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Jarod Rogers guilty of Sexual Battery. With the verdict, Rogers faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Tatiana Salvador will sentence Rogers at a later date.

On Oct. 7, 2015, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the victim at a Westside condo complex. The victim reported she was sitting in her car on her phone when Rogers and another man approached her and pointed a silver revolver at her head. The unknown man demanded her cellphone and told her to walk behind the apartment complex. Rogers went to the back of the building and forced the victim into sexual acts then fled the scene. In 2015, Rogers’ fingerprints were found on the victim’s vehicle. On April 14, 2020, a previously completed Florida Department of Law Enforcement Laboratory Report found that Rogers’ DNA matched a piece of hair inside a sock left inside the victim’s car. They also found Rogers’s DNA on the steering wheel and gearshift of the victim’s vehicle.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Anna Hixon and Melissa Coll.
