State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Zakeeyah Sadler pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. With the plea, Sadler faces a range of 10 to 25 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Sadler at a later date.

On Sept. 24, 2022, Sadler and a friend went to a store parking lot to meet with Sadler’s child’s father. He was with her child and his two children, and he wanted Sadler to take them to an event. Sadler and her child’s father got into an argument that turned physical. One of his kids, who was 16 at the time, was standing outside of the car during the altercation. In the middle of the fight, Sadler went to her car and grabbed her gun. Sadler fired a shot at the teen hitting her in her foot and then pointed the firearm at her child’s father. The bullet hit him in the arm and also hit her friend who was standing nearby.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Katherina Brown.
