State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Brandon Ricketson guilty of two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. With the verdict, Ricketson faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Ricketson at a later date.

On the evening of Aug. 23, 2021, two women were sitting in front of a store on Lane Avenue around 10 p.m. when a man fired shots at them. The security video showed two women hanging outside the front of the business when an old, rusted Chevrolet Blazer drove toward them. One of the women waved the driver off to leave. The driver left but then returned and fired two shots at them. The victims dodged the gunshots and the business was struck. Portions of the bullets were recovered from the sidewalk. A few hours later, an officer located the suspect car and conducted a traffic stop. Ricketson was behind the wheel and admitted to being at the convenience store. He also informed officers he had a firearm in the console. Officers arrested Ricketson and searched the vehicle, recovering the firearm which was analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to be a match to the bullet fragments on scene.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Corie Posey and Clare Kelly.
