State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces a Duval County jury found Norman Caison guilty of Grand Theft and Money Laundering. With the verdict, Caison faces 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Caison at a later date.
On July 21, 2025, the victim received a phone call from a person claiming to be with Community First Credit Union, where she has a bank account. The caller claimed they found fraudulent activity on her account and asked her to verify her name and date of birth. The scammer asked about specific transactions, including a $1,300 pending Zelle transaction, that the victim could see pending. The scammer instructed her to change her username and password and texted her a confirmation message with instructions. The scammer then told her she must withdraw her money and deposit it into a Chase account or wait for it to be stolen and then report it. The scammer promised she would get her money back by midnight if she deposited it into the Chase account. The victim, having received a fraud alert the previous week, believed this information and withdrew $7,000. She deposited the money into Chase using an ATM in Neptune Beach. The scammer had the victim add a debit card to her Apple wallet and promised the money would be back in her account by midnight. On July 22, when she checked her account, the money was not there and the Apple wallet was empty; the victim reported the scam to the Neptune Beach Police Department. Detectives discovered that within an hour of her depositing the money, Caison withdrew the cash from a Chase Bank—captured on surveillance video. Bank records show the money went into a codefendant’s account. The investigation revealed prior to the transaction, Caison arranged with an unidentified co-conspirator to launder money from compromised bank accounts into his codefendant’s account and other financial institutions.
The case was investigated by the Neptune Beach Police Department and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joseph Licandro and Fallon Hinkley.
