State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Rasheed Ali Karreem, of Jacksonville, was sentenced by the Honorable Adrian Soud to three consecutive life sentences in Florida State Prison for the 2018 killing of Jamie Roque. A jury in January 2020 found Karreem guilty as charged of First-Degree Murder, Armed Aggravated Stalking, and Armed Burglary.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2018, Roque was waiting in her vehicle in the drive-thru line of a Baymeadows Road restaurant when Karreem approached by foot and shot her multiple times. He then fled the scene. Witnesses provided a description of Roque’s assailant to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, who arrested Karreem later that day on outstanding warrants for other crimes. Roque and Karreem were in a previous relationship that Roque abandoned after Karreem became physically abusive.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Trey Atkinson and Alan Mizrahi.
