State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Re’Quan Jackson, of Jacksonville, was found guilty by a jury of Attempted First-Degree Murder. Jackson now faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Tatiana Salvador will sentence Jackson during a hearing the week of Oct. 4, 2021.
In the early morning hours of April 19, 2019, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Lasota Avenue in reference to a person who had been shot. The female victim had been shot in the face and abdomen but was able to identify Jackson — who she had been in a relationship with for more than a year — as the shooter before being transported to the hospital. As part of the investigation, the victim told police the make, model, and other details of Jackson’s car and that prior to the incident she and Jackson went to two businesses. The victim told police that after they stole a flashlight from a business, the two went to the 5800 block of Radio Lane, where Jackson said someone had previously left money in an open, grassy field for him to pick up. That grassy field was accessible through a wooded area that Jackson led the victim through. After entering the field, the victim said she looked around for the money and couldn’t find it and when she looked towards Jackson he shot her in the face. The victim fell to the ground and Jackson then shot her again in the abdomen before returning to his vehicle and fleeing. The victim managed to stand and walk through the wooded area to receive help at the Lasota Avenue home. Jackson was arrested several days later and denied having seen the victim for several months.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Tom Mangan and Chyna Makarowski.
