State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Clay County jury found Shaquan Finn guilty of Armed Burglary, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Grand Theft. With the verdict, Finn faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable James Kallaher will sentence Finn at a later date.

On Sept. 4, 2020, the victim — who was not home at the time — received a security notification on her phone that her bedroom window was opened. Officers with Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Orange Park home to find an open window in the back of the home. The officer then witnessed Finn climb out of the window into the backyard. The officer ordered Finn to get on the ground. He complied and was arrested. Officers completed a search and found $450 and several valuable pieces of jewelry in Finn’s pockets with a total value of nearly $9,000. An officer went inside the home to clear the scene and found dresser drawers, cabinets, and closets opened and rummaged through. The officer found a handgun in a bedroom, which was not the victim’s. The room where the gun was located was one of the rooms where the jewelry was stolen. Finn is a previously convicted felon and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm.

The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jamie Cona and Hector Murcia Bustos.
