State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Bernard Jordan guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of Controlled Substance Paraphernalia. With the verdict, Jordan faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jeb Branham will sentence Jordan at a later date.
On Sept. 1, 2023, a patrol officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stopped Jordan as he was riding a bike in the roadway at night without a front light. During the stop, the officer noticed a concealed firearm on the suspect, and he asked Jordan if he was armed. Jordan eventually told the officer that he had a gun on him and gave the officer consent to remove it. The officer detained Jordan while he removed the firearm, and another officer on scene removed a second firearm from the basket of the bicycle. Jordan has a prior felony conviction and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm. Before placing Jordan in the patrol car, the officer searched Jordan and found a glass pipe in his front pocket.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Rebecca Rudolph and Doug Baer.
