State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Chet Mlynek guilty of Burglary to Dwelling or Structure with Damage in Excess of $1,000 and Criminal Mischief. With the verdict, Mlynek faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Mlynek at a later date.

On Sept. 30, 2025, the owner of a Northside business called an employee and told him someone was breaking into the equipment again. The break-ins were going on for weeks at that point, and the employee lived nearby so he went to the business to try to catch the thief. The employee saw Mlynek in dark clothing with a backpack, a flashlight, and a crowbar prying a radiator from a piece of equipment. He held Mlynek down until police arrived. Surveillance photos captured Mlynek breaking into the business earlier that day and later at night.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Raquel Stokes and Trinity Turinetti.
