State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Ronnie Roman guilty of nine counts of Sexual Battery on a minor. With the verdict, Roman faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Roman at a later date.

The investigation into Roman began in May 2023 when the victim came forward to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office about years of sexual abuse. The victim was abused over four years, beginning in 2018, when she was 14 years old. Roman—a registered Sexual Predator—lived in the same house as the victim and had access to her when she was a child. Over the years, Roman would rape the victim when the two were alone, both in Jacksonville and on trips out of town. Roman threatened the victim with a firearm to keep her silent. He recorded some of the assaults on his phone and admitted to several of the rapes during a controlled call with the victim, which led to his arrest.

This case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Giovanna Rivera and Shaina Ruth.
