State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Clifton Wilson Jr. guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. With the verdict, Wilson faces 25 years to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will sentence Wilson at a later date.

On October 11, 2025, Wilson, a man, a woman—all known to each other – ran errands together. While out, Wilson and the man got into a physical fight. Wilson then punched the woman in the face. The man and woman left and went home. The victim, who lived with the man and woman, asked what happened. The woman told the victim that Wilson punched her in the face. Wilson then returned to the house to pick up his car and got into a fight with the victim over him punching the woman. Wilson left in his car, but a few hours later, Wilson returned with a gun. He fired multiple rounds from the yard, which hit the victim twice. Wilson ran from the scene and was arrested less than 48 hours later in possession of the firearm used in the shooting.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Susan Haag and Andrew Szatkowski.
