State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Tyrone Golson pleaded guilty up to the Court to Second-Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse. With his guilty plea, Golson faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Jonathan Sacks will sentence Golson at a later date.

On Feb. 18, 2024, Golson called 911 to report a 6-year-old girl unresponsive; Golson was the child’s guardian. First responders rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Medical staff noticed bruises covering her body and a body temperature of 88 degrees. During the investigation, Golson informed detectives that he gave the child Benadryl before bed and that he found her unresponsive. The Medical Examiners determined that the 6-year-old child suffered from bruising and hemorrhaging throughout her body, the result of blunt trauma. The cause of death was ultimately determined to be swelling of the brain as a result of blunt trauma to the head. During the course of the investigation, it was also determined that an 8-year-old boy who was also in Golson’s custody also suffered from injuries, the result of blunt trauma.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by First Assistant Jay Plotkin and Chief Assistant Adair Newman.
