Larry Baldwin Jr. Found Guilty of Murdering Father, Friend

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Larry Baldwin Jr. guilty of First-Degree Murder and Second-Degree Murder in the 2025 killing of his father and friend. With the verdict, Baldwin faces a mandatory sentence of life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable L.E. Hutton will formally sentence Baldwin at a later date.

Just before 3:30 a.m. June 21, 2025, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a shooting at a Baymeadows Way business complex. When officers arrived, Baldwin was there and said he had shot his father. The two victims were suffering from gunshot wounds, and both died at the scene. Witnesses told police Baldwin was working on a disabled truck in the parking lot with the two other men — later identified as Baldwin’s father and friend — before they started arguing. Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed Baldwin and his friend get into an argument that escalated and Baldwin struck his friend with the firearm. When he did so again, the gun discharged and struck Baldwin’s father. Baldwin then shot his friend multiple times.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys LaTesha Campbell and Jalisa Curtis-King.
