State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Bryan Brown guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder with a Weapon and Armed Burglary with Assault/Battery on October 14, 2026. During a hearing on November 5, 2026, the Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Brown to life in Florida State Prison followed by 30 years.

On the afternoon of Aug. 22, 2025, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a Community Road home about an assault with injuries. When they arrived, they were given Brown’s name, physical description, and that he had fled west. Officers spotted Brown on a tricycle several blocks away and Brown identified himself after being stopped. Brown attacked the victim by hitting him on the head with a bat. Witnesses reported hearing loud screams before seeing Brown kick open the front door of the house. Witnesses saw Brown drag the victim by his hair, grab a bat, and hit the victim repeatedly. Brown chased the victim into a neighbor’s yard where he continued to beat the victim. When a witness pointed a gun at Brown and told him to stop, Brown did and walked away. The witness then called police.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joseph Ciliberto and Justin Asbrand.
