Martin Found Guilty of Spitting on Officer, Violation of Injunction

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Rasheed Martin guilty of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer; Violation of an Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence; and Resisting Officer Without Violence to His or Her Person. With the verdict, Martin faces up to 7 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Anthony Salem will sentence Martin at a later date.

On Jan. 25, 2026, officers responded to the victim’s home around 2 a.m. The victim called 911 to report Martin was trying to set a mattress on fire inside the home; the victim had an active Injunction for Protection against Domestic Violence against Martin and one of the conditions required Martin to stay 500 feet from the victim’s home. However, officers found Martin inside the home and attempted to arrest him, but when they did, Martin pulled away and tensed his body. Officers took Martin to the ground and put him in handcuffs. While handcuffed, Martin spat at one of the officers on the left side of his face.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Fallon Hinkley and Trinity Turinetti.
