Pam Hazel Appointed to 7th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission

Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Clay County Director Pam Hazel to the Seventh Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

The nine-member commission of lawyers and non-lawyers are tasked with locating, recruiting, investigating, and evaluating applicants for judicial office in the Seventh Circuit comprising Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia counties. Commissions submit between three to six qualified applicants to the governor, who will make an appointment from that list.

“Judicial Nominating Commissions fill a vital role in our criminal justice system, and I am honored by Gov. DeSantis’ appointment to take part in this important process,” said Hazel.  

Hazel is a 25-year prosecutor who has handled death penalty, sexual assault, and violent crime cases among others during her career. She currently serves as the director of the Clay County office, overseeing cases in the circuit’s second-most populous county. Hazel graduated summa cum laude from Troy State University and earned her law degree from the Florida State University College of Law in the top 10 percent of her class. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2001. 

Hazel’s term on the commission ends July 1, 2030.
