JURY FINDS ALVARADO GUILTY OF ATTEMPTED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER

State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Clay County jury found Juventino Salinas Alvarado guilty of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle, and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. Alvarado faces up to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable James E. Kallaher will sentence Alvarado at a future hearing.

On Feb. 16, 2023, Alvarado arrived at a construction site on Pinehurst Lane in Fleming Island and demanded to be allowed to work. The victim – who is the site supervisor for the company – informed Alvarado he could not work at the site because he was not employed by the company. The victim and Alvarado argued and had a short shoving match. Eventually, Alvarado got back into the car he arrived in and left the site. A minute and a half later, as shown on Ring camera footage of the incident, Alvarado returned to the site and pulled up next to the victim, fired five shots at the victim at close range, and drove off. A neighbor called 911. Detectives were able to track Alvarado down using his license plate number, which the victim had captured on video after their initial interaction. Alvarado was arrested at a mobile home park in Alabama.

The case was investigated by Clay County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Alabama HSI agents, and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jamie Cona, Kristen Huether, and Hector Murcia Bustos.
