CLAY FOUND GUILTY OF POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Antonio Clay guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. With the verdict, Clay faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison if sentenced as a Habitual Violent Felony Offender. The Honorable Judge Mark Borello will sentence Clay at a future hearing.
On Oct. 4, 2021, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to UF Health Jacksonville regarding a person — identified as Clay — suffering gunshot wounds. After talking to witnesses and gathering DNA evidence, officers determined Clay was involved in an attempted carjacking outside of his ex-girlfriend’s Northwest Jacksonville apartment complex. Clay pulled a firearm out on a driver as he dropped Clay’s ex-girlfriend off. The driver was armed and shot at Clay in self-defense. After the shooting, the driver went to the police station to report the attempted carjacking.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Megan Sowell and Corie Posey.
