CHAMBERS FOUND GUILTY OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER, ARMED BURGLARY
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Codeon Chambers was found guilty by a jury of First-Degree Murder and Armed Burglary. Immediately after the verdict, the Honorable Anthony Salem sentenced Chambers to life followed by 50 years in Florida State Prison.
On Dec. 24. 2012, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrived at an apartment complex on Roosevelt Boulevard in reference to a person who was shot. The victim was found lying on the floor of his living room with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. He died from his injuries. The investigation uncovered a witness who said they saw two black males coming from the direction of the shooting, with one carrying a gun box. Investigators also found evidence at the scene in the form of blood and fingerprints, which led to the arrest of Chambers’ co-defendant who was successfully tried for murder. During that trial, witnesses who were present at the scene identified Chambers as the other suspect in the murder and said Chambers cut his hand crashing through a glass-top coffee table. Additional evidence from the crime scene was submitted for DNA testing, which returned positive for Chambers’ DNA being present. Chambers was subsequently arrested for the murder.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Richard Giglio and Joe Licandro.
