JURY FINDS CROMER GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER OF A HOMELESS MAN
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Quincy Cromer guilty of Manslaughter of a homeless man in 2023. With the verdict, Cromer faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Cromer at a later date.
Around 8 a.m. May 29, 2023, patrol officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a homeless shelter on Ashley Street after reports of a person shot. The victim was found lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Multiple witnesses told officers Cromer drove the wrong way down Broad Street and stopped in front of the victim. Cromer exited his car with a semi-automatic rifle and approached the victim. The victim picked up a pole to protect himself and Cromer subsequently shot him four times. Cromer drove off, called his estranged wife, and confessed to the shooting. Cromer told her the victim threw a rock at his car, so he turned around to confront him.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jackie Blair and Jay Plotkin.
