KEGLAR PLEADS GUILTY TO SECOND-DEGREE MURDER OF TEVIN ROBINSON
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Keith Keglar Jr. pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder and Unlicensed Carrying of a Concealed Firearm for the killing of Tevin Robinson. Keglar faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Tatiana Salvador will sentence Keglar during the week of Jan. 29, 2024.
On Jan. 2, 2022, a security guard found Robinson suffering from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle in a shopping plaza on Dunn Avenue. Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported Robinson to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives found two phones inside the vehicle. Robinson’s phone had a record of a Snapchat video call that night with Keglar which lasted about 35 minutes. The second phone was registered to Keglar and also contained the record of the 35-minute Snapchat video call. Video surveillance from a nearby business showed Keglar walked to a parking lot and waited for Robinson to pull into the spot. Once Robinson arrived, Keglar approached Robinson’s vehicle and spoke for a few minutes before he got in the car. Keglar is in the car for about 10 minutes, then there’s a flash, and Keglar runs from the scene. Forensic evidence confirmed Keglar’s location with what was seen on surveillance video. During Keglar’s arrest, officers found a gun in Keglar’s backpack, and a Florida Department of Law Enforcement firearm analysis confirmed that gun was used to shoot Robinson.
The case was investigated by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Vanessa Wheeler-Sanchez.
