DUVAL COUNTY JURY FINDS LEWIS GUILTY OF BURGLARY, RESISTING ARREST
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found Timothy Lewis Jr. guilty of Burglary to an Occupied Dwelling and Resisting an Officer Without Violence to his/her Person. With the verdict, Lewis faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable Mark Borello will sentence Lewis on a future date.
On June 3, 2023, the victim called police to report a man trying to break into her apartment on Pall Mall Drive. The victim and her grandchild were home when Lewis began banging on the doors and windows. The victim then saw Lewis in her fenced backyard, so she took her grandchild and fled out the front door. When officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, they found Lewis in the living room with the back porch door open and broken glass on the floor. Officers attempted to detain Lewis, but he resisted by tucking his arms under his chest, refusing to be handcuffed. After a short struggle, Lewis was arrested. Officers found Lewis’s shorts and license in the victim’s bathroom. There was damage to the porch screen, sliding glass door, and other household items.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jessica Russell and LaTesha Campbell.
