DUVAL COUNTY JURY FINDS OWENS GUILTY OF BURGLARY
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Duval County jury found D’Suan Owens guilty of Burglary to a Dwelling. After the verdict, the Honorable Mark Borello sentenced Owens to 28 months in Florida State Prison.
On April 4, 2024, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on 18th Street West for a burglary in progress. Surveillance cameras around the home notified the builder of sensors going off. He looked at the cameras and saw a man entering the back door of the home, which is when he called police. Officers could hear a voice coming from inside the home and told the intruder — later identified as Owens — to exit the home with his hands in the air. Officers took Owens into custody and searched the home. They found a broken window leading into the back bedroom. Owens admitted to crawling through the window because he wanted a place to sleep.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Aaron Appiah Jr. and Lizzie Brown.
