WOODARD SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR GUN POSSESSION, OTHER CRIMES
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that Kadeem Woodard pleaded guilty to separate cases of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Burglary to a Dwelling, and Possession with Intent to Sell, Manufacture, or Deliver Cannabis within 1,000 Feet of a Park. Pursuant to the plea agreement, the Honorable London Kite during a May 19, 2023, hearing sentenced Woodard to 20 years in Florida State Prison.
On Nov. 5, 2020, Woodard was arrested at an apartment on Shenandoah Avenue after an executed search warrant uncovered a handgun with an extended magazine in a clothes drawer in Woodard’s bedroom. A witness who resided at the home and was with Woodard prior to his arrest told law enforcement Woodard owned the gun and had brought it to her apartment numerous times. Woodard is a multiple-time convicted felon previously adjudicated guilty. Given the prior felonies, Woodard is not allowed to legally possess a firearm.
On June 11, 2017, officers went to a home on Scriven Street in reference to a home burglary. Woodard entered the house through a window and proceeded to take video game consoles and games, but injured himself on entry. A sample of blood from the scene was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and positively matched Woodard. The victim did not know Woodard personally but identified him through pictures as someone who frequented a relative’s business.
On Oct. 14, 2020, officers in Zone 1 searched for Woodard who had an active warrant and found him in a car close to Henry L. Brown Kooker Park. A search of the car uncovered a shoe box with a scale, baggies with marijuana, and bulk marijuana, among other items.
The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
